• WARNING!

Failure to follow the instructions below to the letter may result in inferior adhesion and/or the destruction of your pad on removal.

PKP cannot be held responsible for the incorrect installation of your pad, nor any damages resulting from its removal, as it is entirely out of our control.

  • PKP Pad Application & Repair Guide

    Before you start:

After receiving your pad, allow 24 hours before applying — this lets the adhesive stabilise after transit.

    What you'll need

A clean cloth + Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)

    Steps

    1. Clean the kneeboard deck thoroughly with acetone or isopropyl alcohol. Remove all wax, sunscreen residue, and dirt. Allow to dry completely – 5 min.
    2. Mark out the position of the pad with masking tape and a permanent marker
    3. Carefully peel back a small section of the adhesive liner at the top or bottom of pad — do not remove it all at once.
    4. Position the exposed adhesive on the board, then press down. Once the adhesive contacts the surface, repositioning is impossible, so please be careful.
    5. Press down firmly from the centre outward, peeling the liner back as you go. A roller is preferred, or use your hands to apply firm, even pressure across the entire pad surface.
    6. Run your thumb hard along all edges to ensure full contact.
    7. Tape down all edges securely, all around, pad to underside of the board, with masking tape
    8. Leave for 24 hours before use.

    Repairing a Lifting Edge

Marine environments – heat, water, UV are all detrimental to equipment. Edge lifting may occur, and is usually caused by water, wax or sunscreen contamination working in under the adhesive over time. It can
    be fixed easily.

    What you'll need

Acetone, a cotton tip or thin cloth, and a tube of contact cement or marine-grade adhesive.

    Steps

    1. Gently lift the loose section — do not force it. Pull slowly to avoid tearing the foam.
    2. Clean both the exposed board surface and the underside of the pad with acetone. Allow to dry fully.
    3. Apply a thin, even layer of contact cement to both surfaces.
    4. Allow to become tacky (approximately 5 minutes), then press firmly together.
    5. Apply heavy pressure for 60 seconds — a roller or firm thumb pressure along the edge works well.
    6. Tape fixed edge securely with masking tape.
    7. Leave for 24 hours before getting it wet.

  • Emergency Repair Adhesives

For any pad-to-board adhesion issues, and repairs over time, consider the following adhesives from 3M, Loctite, Gorilla, SIKA, Araldite, Bostik, Permabond, etc.

    1. Epoxy Adhesives: Two-part epoxies provide strong, durable bonds with excellent resistance to heat, chemicals, and moisture.
    2. Cyanoacrylate (Superglue): Fast-bonding for small, lightweight components. Best for non-porous surfaces but less effective in high-moisture or high-vibration environments.
    3. Polyurethane Adhesives: Flexible and moisture-resistant, suitable for bonding to foam, wood, or plastics. Good for outdoor or humid conditions.

    NB!

    • Test First on a small, non-critical area of the board or a similar material to confirm adhesion.
    • Avoid Overloading. Do not apply excessive adhesive, as this can reduce bond strength or create mess.
    • Check Compatibility: Ensure the adhesive won’t damage the PKP kneeboard pad or your board (e.g., avoid solvent-based adhesives that could degrade foam).
